Important Update

As our nation, California and the local community deal with the coronavirus pandemic, we want to provide you with an update on how it has impacted our facility and the steps we are taking to address this difficult situation.

We have felt the virus’s direct effects here at La Jolla Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and wish to inform you that a single staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.  We share this information because we believe it is the right thing to do for our residents, their families, our staff and for public safety.

The staff member, who showed no previous signs or symptoms associated with the coronavirus, was tested for COVID-19 after being exposed to the virus by a family member and the test results were positive yesterday.  That staff member is currently quarantined at home.

La Jolla Nursing & Rehabilitation Center residents and staff who may have been in contact with this employee are being actively monitored for any signs or symptoms of respiratory concerns, including getting their temperatures checked frequently, in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).    No additional residents or staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at this time.

Please know that we have followed, and will continue to follow, the guidance set forth for privacy, patient care, employee safety and efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19 as provided by the California Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Staff and essential medical personal are clinically screened prior to entering our facility and we continue to prohibit visitors.  Prior to each shift, our staff members are required to wash their hands, take their temperature and answer a series of questions to ensure they are not exhibiting any known symptoms for COVID-19.

We also conduct a rigorous sanitation regimen that follows, and in some cases exceeds, all state and federal guidelines.  We have increased the daily volume of cleaning done in common, medical and residential areas.  All protective and medical equipment are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Providing for the safety and well-being of our residents and staff is our paramount priority.  We will continue to provide you with periodic updates regarding our efforts to combat COVID-19.  We want to thank you for your understanding and support.  It means a great deal to us.

Sincerely, La Jolla Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
