We anticipate our families to have many questions and we do understand.

Here are some of these often-asked questions:


What is necessary or required to admit someone to the nursing home?
You must be admitted under a local doctor’s care. Residents must meet a minimum level of care and/or require assistance with daily life activities such walking, dressing, eating, getting up and moving around. If being admitted from home, a physical exam by the doctor is required.

What are the levels of care provided?
Skilled Care and Nursing Facility Care. Skilled Care is provided after a qualifying hospital stay. Skilled care is defined by the rules of the Federal Medicare program and is paid for at 80-100% by Medicare if the resident has Medicare A benefits. Other insurance may supplement the costs for skilled care that Medicare does not cover.

Nursing Facility Care also known as Intermediate Care, is conventional nursing home care. It is either paid for privately by the individual or by a state run program called Medicaid. Medicaid is administered by the Department of Human Services (DHS). Medicaid is for those who have run out of financial resources to pay for the services privately. Other resources are available for Veterans and people with Nursing Home/Long Term Care insurance.

What documents will I need to provide?
Medicare card, Supplemental Health Insurance card (such as Blue Cross or HMO), Social Security card, Pharmacy/Drug Prescription card. These documents must be provided before or at the time of admission. Other documents if available include General Power of Attorney (for finances), Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care Decisions, and a Living Will. The names, addresses, and telephone numbers of family or friends with whom we may share information about you will also need to be provided.


What is the cost associated with nursing home care?
Room and board charges are a flat daily fee corresponding to the room type and level of assistance needed. Additional costs include, but are not limited to the individual’s medications, doctor visits, physical, occupational, or speech therapy, oxygen concentrators/supplies and other services such as beauty/barber shop services and phone service.

How are facility services billed?
Room and board are billed one month in advance and are refundable provided that a minimum 14 day notice of intent to discharge from the facility is communicated in writing to the facility. Miscellaneous services, such as beauty/barber shop, and hospitality cart are billed as charges are incurred. Monthly payments are due to the facility no later than the date of admission and the 10th of each month. Residents receiving Medicaid assistance are responsible for the entire amount of the client participation (as determined and changed by DHS) monthly. The person designated as the resident’s responsible party for finances will receive the bill each month.


Are there set hours when I can visit my loved one?
Guests may visit at any time as long as acceptable to the resident and not disruptive to other residents. At the request of our residents, visitors are not permitted in the resident dining room, however, we do offer alternative lounges and community rooms if you wish to share a meal, bring in food, or celebrate with your loved one. There is a nominal fee for visitor meals provided by the facility.


What about medications? Can I bring the prescription bottles that we have at home?
Except for residents receiving medications from the Veteran’s Administration (VA), all other medications must use a unit dose system for an organized and controlled system according to nursing home requirements. Any over the counter medications (tylenol, vitamins, herbal supplements) require a doctor’s order, must be properly labeled and administered by the nursing staff, unless there is approval for the resident to self-administer their own medications or to keep them at their bedside.


What about TV?
Residents must supply their own television sets and due to space and safety we request size be limited to 25″ or less. Cable is included in our daily rate.

How is the room furnished?
The room comes with a hospital type bed, nightstand, chair, and closet. We encourage residents and families to personalize the room including photos and other belongings. Residents may bring a favorite chair (often a recliner) or another small piece of furniture as space allows. Nursing home safety requirements prohibit the use of throw rugs, door stops, extension cords, candles, aerosol cans, and sharp objects.

Is there a phone in the resident’s room?
Phone service is a private arrangement between the resident/family member and the local provider. A phone is available for resident use in the lounge area, or calls may be directed to Ennoble Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Long distance outgoing calls are not allowed from facility phones.
