(Aliso Viejo, CA, April 7, 2020) — In response to the national effort to combat COVID-19, Covenant Care has inspired the creation of thousands of face masks. In less than a week, over 3,000 face masks have been sewn, donated and distributed to 30 skilled nursing facilities in California and Nevada.
Because of a need for face masks, Covenant Care’s Karen Reed turned to the community to build a host of sewing angels from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Van Pham Grandma’s, COVID 19 Healthcare Collaboration South OC, and other community members across California, Utah, Nevada and Idaho.
“After countless hours of pulling together scraps of fabric, elastics, hair elastics, rope and ties, the sewing angels crafted and provided over 3,000 masks to our healthcare frontline heroes—all in an effort to help our staff care for our residents and patients,” said Karen Reed, Covenant Care Director of Integrated Services.
“It feels great to have a purpose and teach the kiddos something very useful,” said Sarah Lowe, a seamstress sewing in Utah with her children.
Bart Vanderwal, executive director of Pacific Gardens in Fresno, one of Covenant Care’s skilled nursing facilities, said, “We are so grateful for the 120 masks that arrived from the sewing angels. It was a perfect gift.” Marthen Lumingkewas, executive director at Huntington Park shared his gratitude when he said, “We are thankful for all the hard work, for the hands that made this. We greatly appreciate it.”
“I have been brought to tears daily witnessing the selfless generosity of strangers, neighbors, community and friends all coming together to protect our healthcare heroes, whom I think about every minute of every day,” said Karen Reed.
Covenant Care is continuing to locate and deliver donations to assist the country’s manufacturing and supply chain demands. For more information go to CovenantCare.com.
