TOP 5% STATE RANKING
Lakeland (Angola, IN)
Lakeland Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation recently ranked in the top 5% of the state for nursing facilities, according to the Government Accountability Office and the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Lakeland was 25 out of 510 other facilities. “This recognition is tremendous for Lakeland’s residents and staff, especially when there is typically so much negative media coverage. It isn’t something that happens without a lot of commitment and work by the entire team. The staff at Silver Ridge Healthcare Center proudly display their 2567 annual Medicare recertification deficiency free survey results completed in January 2010. They also received their fourth consecutive Life Safety deficiency free survey this year.

AMDA Foundation/Evercare Award
ROYAL CARE (Long Beach, CA)
Royal Care was one of the three facilities in the nation to receive 2010 AMDA Foundation/Evercare award for Improving Quality of Life for Persons Living in Nursing Homes. The award presented at the Annual American Medical Directors Association Symposium in Long Beach on March 12th, recognize nursing facilities that develop programs to bring innovative ideas and efforts to maximize quality long term care. A panel of judges with expertise in the senior care market and independently appointed by the AMDA Foundation, selected three skilled nursing facilities from nominations throughout the country.
Among other guidelines, winning facilities developed and implemented programs which measurably improved the quality of life within their nursing homes. The programs must be both sustainable and able to be replicated in other facilities. Royal Care was recognized for Interdisciplinary Walking Rounds implementation. Beth Garver, ED and Nadine Domingo, DON received the award at the symposium. All department managers were recognized during the ceremony.

AHCA Award Celebration
PACIFIC GARDENS (Fresno, CA)
The AHCA/ NCAL National Quality Award Program recognizes some of the very best facilities in the long term care profession. In 2009 Pacific Gardens was proud to be one of the facilities to achieve a “Step 1 National Quality Award”. On February 3, 2010 we were honored to have many distinguished guests join us in celebrating the achievement of receiving this award. In addition to the award itself Pacific Gardens was also given several recognitions by our local community leaders. The celebration was completed with a proclamation from Fresno City Council Member, Mike Dages, declaring February 3, 2010 “Pacific Gardens Day” in the City of Fresno!

Open House/AccuNurse
COVINGTON MANOR (Fort Wayne, IN)
Covington Manor held an Open House on March 4th celebrating the New Face of Covington Manor and to demonstrate our new voice activated charting system, AccuNurse. The open house was a great success with an attendance of over 90 guests from the healthcare community. All were impressed with the AccuNurse system. We were also honored that Congressman Mark Souder sent a representative to share a statement from the Congressman with our guests. All of us at Covington Manor are very proud of our beautiful “new’” facility and the addition of AccuNurse, helping our staff to provide the highest level of care to our residents.

SILVER RIDGE (Las Vegas, NV)
The latest in technology comes to Silver Ridge Healthcare Center. Accu-Nurse, a real-time documentation system, is being piloted with the current focus on ADL accuracy. The program has been embraced by all staff and additional program roll outs are expected over the next several months. Silver Ridge is one of two Covenant Care sites chosen to pilot this program.

B&B Memory Unit Opening
UNIVERSITY PARK (Fort Wayne, IN)
University Park celebrated the Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting of it’s new Bed and Breakfast Memory Care Unit March 3rd. The event was a big success. Pastor Michael A. Griffin and his Deacons from Jeruselem Baptist Church began the afternoon by dedicating the Bed and Breakfast, Mary Evans made it official by cutting the ribbon, and Ken Nicolette from the Ft. Wayne Mayor’s office presented a proclamation stating “the Bed and Breakfast Memory Care Unit is committed to their residents, employees, physicians and families and provides an environment that gives each resident a sense of confidence, belonging and trust.”

AHCA STEP I QUALITY AWARD WINNERS
St. Edna, Pacific Gardens & Royal Care
St. Edna, Pacific Gardens and Royal Care are proud recipients of AHCA Step I Quality Award from the American Healthcare Association. These facilities earned national quality improvement recognition at AHCA’s National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
The AHCA/NCAL Quality Award is based on criteria from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which is the nations premier recognition for quality achievement. AHCA/NCAL’s award recognizes the commitment to a continuous quality improvement process at nursing facilities, assisted living residences, and residences for persons with developmental disabilities.
These facilities demonstrated quality outcomes as their top priority.

Two top businesses and a nonprofit leader will be honored at the 2010 BBB International Torch Awards ceremony on April 20, 2010 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. The International Torch Awards are given by the Council of Better Business Bureaus to recognize businesses and executives exhibiting integrity in the marketplace and exemplary dedication to fostering trust between businesses and consumers.
Villa Springfield, a local 2009 BBB Eclipse Integrity Award winner, will be receiving the BBB International Torch Awards for Marketplace Excellence, which recognizes superior commitment to exceptional standards that benefit customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders and surrounding communities.

Janice Thompson is Villa Georgetown’s "Second Mile Award Winner" Janice has been a long time employee of the Villa, with over 20 years of dedicated service. Residents and families wrote that Janice is an exceptional employee, going above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. She plans many fun and unique activities. She often enlists the help of her family, which they willingly provide because they know how important it is to her. She truly exemplifies our philosophy of "Family Serving Families" and she truly deserves this award for her devotion.

Hero Recognized
Villa Springfield
Bill Robinson Executive Director of Villa Springfield was chosen by the Ohio Health Care Association to be the Hero of the Month for December. This honor is given to an individual in long-term care for their services to the facility, the residents they serve and the entire community as true Heroes of Long Term Care.
