Miller Returns Home
Mr. Gerald Miller, 59, of Arcanum successfully completed the Versailles Health Care Center's "Homeward Bound" program on February 2, 2008. Gerald was admitted to VHCC on January 11, 2008 from Wayne Hospital following bilateral total knee replacements.
Upon admission to VHCC, Mr. Miller required assistance for all transfers. Gerald was only able to ambulate 75 feet with assistance. He had diminished range of motion and strength in both knees. His activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and grooming varied from maximum assistance to setup help depending on the task. Gerald also had decreased oxygen levels with any type of activity when he was admitted.
By participating with physical, occupational, and respiratory therapist, Gerald was able to return to his home on February 2, 2008. He was able to transfer himself and walk independently. He was walking more than 650 feet with a walker. His strength and range of motion was increased. He was able to maneuver up and down steps. He learned several breathing techniques that helped him with oxygen conservation to be able to do all of his activities of daily living with no assistance.
Mr. Miller had a good attitude toward his rehab stay. He was motivated in everything he was asked to do and progressed well. His rehab length of stay was 22 days. His family and co-workers from the Ohio State Patrol provided lots of support and encouragement. Mr. Gerald Miller stated, "Everyone did a good job and this is the best place in the nation." Congratulations to Mr. Gerald Miller on his outstanding accomplishments. Droesch Is Homeward Bound
The Versailles Health Care Center is pleased to announce that Mrs. Constance Droesch of Versailles, Ohio has successfully completed her Homeward Bound program. Connie was transferred to VHCC when she was discharged from Wayne Hospital following a surgical procedure. She was thrilled to be able to return to home following a brief 20 day stay in the Versailles Health Care Center’s Transitional Care Unit.
Upon admission on April 8, 2008, Constance was stand by assist for sit to stand transfers, needed contact guard assistance for balance when up walking, and could walk 125 feet with a standard walker. Her activities of daily living such as grooming, dressing, and hygiene tasks varied in range from stand by assistance to moderate assistance. This was a change in life style for Connie since she was completely independent before going to the hospital.
On April 28, 2008, Mrs. Droesch was able to return to her home by herself. She had participated with physical and occupational therapy to make outstanding accomplishments. She was able to walk with a straight cane 310 feet and maneuver 6” steps with only contact guard assistance and one handrail. She was independent for all transfers and modified independent for all activities of daily living.
Mrs. Constance Droesch chose VHCC based on their excellent reputation as a nursing facility and its rehab unit. She commends the nurses and aides in the Transitional Care Unit. They were always friendly and took good care of me. They were very understanding, patient, and knowledgeable. The cleanliness of the facility also impressed her. In fact, Connie chose to continue her recovery process on an outpatient basis at VHCC. Congratulations to Mrs. Constance Droesch on her successful completion of the VHCC Homeward Bound program. Neth Makes Great Accomplishments
The Versailles Health Care Center is pleased to announce that Ms. Norma Neth of Sidney, Ohio has successfully completed his Homeward Bound program. Norma was transferred to VHCC when she was discharged from
Wilson Memorial Hospital following a change in mental status. She was thrilled to be able to return to home following discussion on the hospital regarding long term placement in an extended care facility.
Upon admission on May 13, 2008, Norma required minimal assistance with transfers due to weakness and inactivity. She was very quiet and unsteady concerning her behaviors. She could complete her activities of daily living with minimal assistance. She was alert but had increased confusion with a flat affect. She required constant voicing to complete task. She refused to leave her room upon admission. This was a significant change prior to her hospital stay in which she was independent with all aspects of life.
On June 24, 2008, Ms. Norma Neth could perform all functional transfers independently. She was also highly independent with gait on all levels of terrain. She met her maximum potential regarding strength and range of motion. She was completing all activities of daily living including homemaking task independently. Her emotional status was greatly improved. She was very motivated to participate in group therapy and help other residents and staff around the facility.
Norma’s family chose VHCC because it was the only facility with a bed available that could meet her needs. Upon discharge both Norma and her family gave VHCC a thumbs up. They were very impressed with the facility and mentioned that therapy did an excellent job.
