"There are no words to describe my appreciation for your loving care. I never worried about her care or well being because I know she was treated with respect and like 'family'"

Red Hat Bash! At Edgewood Manor

Twenty beautiful ladies decked out in their appropriately colored hats participated in Edgewood’s Red Hat Bash. The room was covered with red/purple balloons as well as centerpieces of purple lilacs and red tulips artistically arranged in colorful baskets to complete the décor. Tables spread throughout the living room were topped with bright purple tablecloths coordinated with red plates and napkins. Each placesetting was graced with elegantly dainty china tea cups. Specialty teas and coffees were on the drink cart for the choosing as well as New York style cheesecake and iced cut-out cookies decorated with red/purple hats to tickle the taste buds. As the ladies enjoyed their tea and sweets, a local music group called “The Two Bow Ties with Two D’s” performed music from the 30’, 40’s, and 50’s. Such old favorites as “Sentimental Journey”, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, and “Good Night Sweetheart” had the audience singing along. Before the party came to a close, a drawing was held for prizes. Millie Krempa, Mary Priddy, and Mary Snider were all lucky enough to hear their names called as winners. “Everything was just perfect!” said resident Irene Rischpater. “The desserts, the music, and the decorations were all just perfect!”

Edgewood Entertains Residents with Mexican Hat Party!

Sombreros filled the living room at Edgewood Manor while Mexican music engulfed the air. Dancing broke out as Keyboard Cleats excited the crowd with a variety of entertaining tunes all wrapped in a fabulous Latin beat. Residents had their taste buds tantalized with tortilla chips and a picante cheese dip paired with either chilled coke or ice cold beer to quench their thirsts. The cha-cha-cha of maracas resounded throughout the facility as the crowd moved to the music. Such traditional favorites as “Mexican Hat Dance”, “La Bamba”, and “Vaya Con Dios” were just a sampling of the various songs the entertainer played. Smiles covered the faces of family members as they watched their loved ones getting the most out of life. “That was so much fun! I love to dance. This was a great party!” commented Lillian Larsen, a one year resident of Edgewood. Then, to sum the afternoon up, resident Doris Rounds said with a big smile, “We’re party animals! We always have fun here!” Good music, dancing, delicious appetizers, cold drinks, and lots of laughter made this party a very memorable one.

Edgewood Manor Residents Enjoy Mystery Dinner Theatre!

As the residents of Edgewood Manor sat spellbound, a murder plot at the Erie Senior Center unfolded before their very eyes. While enjoying herbed roasted chicken, a vegetable rice medley, corn bread and peach cobbler for dessert, they were entertained by a murder mystery dinner theatre entitled “The Killer Cast”. The residents helped Detective Horsit untangle a twisted plot set at the old decaying Starlight Theatre where dangers lurked in dark corners and secrets abound. Mesmerized by the many twists and turns to discover who was greedy enough to commit “murder most foul”, the residents enjoyed an evening of mouth-watering food and fun-filled theatrical performance. “That was so much fun!” said resident, Doris Rounds. “I enjoyed all of it. I even got my picture taken with the detective!” It was an out of facility trip to be remembered and a play not soon to be forgotten.

Edgewood Manor Residents Compete in Rehab Olympics!

With the sun shining and a warm gentle breeze blowing across the courtyard, it was the perfect afternoon for Edgewood Manor’s second annual Rehab Olympics. In celebration of National Rehabilitation Week, the therapy department at Edgewood uses this week to show people that not only does exercise add years to your life but life to your years. Fun engulfed the courtyard as two teams of residents and therapists competed through an obstacle course. Starting with dressing in additional clothing including hats, scarves, and shoes, the participants then moved through eight stations before taking the added clothing back off and heading to the finish line. The crowd including residents, staff, and family members clapped, screamed, and cheered for the teams as they traveled the course. A basketball hoop, bean bag toss, darts, cone stacking, and a soccer kick are just a few examples of the various stations the competitors moved through. Everyone did a fantastic job as the teams were neck and neck at the finish line. Excitement spread across the winners faces as they were awarded not only medals but a bag full of prizes. “We should do this more often,” said resident Millie Krempa. “That was so much fun!” Every participant went away from the Olympics with a huge smile, the satisfaction of a competition well performed, and lots of great memories not only of laughter but camaraderie that won’t soon be forgotten.

Edgewood Residents Hear Outdoor Concert

Ice cream, sunshine, big band music, and a warm breeze delighted the residents of Edgewood Manor as they enjoyed an evening outdoor concert at the Hayes Presidential Center. Before the performance began the residents joined the crowd for an old fashioned ice cream social on the lawn. Then after getting their tummies satisfied by the sweet taste of ice cream, they relaxed into their chairs as the concert began. Music permeated the air as the North Coast Big Band started to jam. The group played all the best loved tunes by big band greats such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. Residents sang along to old favorites that brought back good memories of day gone by. Clapping and fun spread across the lawn as they kept beat to the lively and familiar music. The joy felt by all was obvious by the huge smiles spread across the beautiful faces of the residents in attendance. “The music was great,” resident Norma Allen commented with a smile. “And so was the ice cream!” The residents of Edgewood had an evening out filled with fresh air, merriment, and wonderful memories. At least once a month during the warm weather, residents go to an outdoor concert with music ranging from classical to big band to bluegrass.

Edgewood Manor Resident Council Holds Elections

Edgewood Manor’s Resident Council which meets monthly recently held their annual election for office. The Resident Council promotes independence and self-esteem as well as empowering residents by giving them a voice in the decision making that affects their quality of life. The meetings improve communication within the home by allowing residents the opportunity to offer suggestions for change, express their opinions without judgment, air any grievances, have a say in the food menus as well as the activity calendar, and generally exercise their rights as human beings.

We are pleased to announce Irene Rischpater, a two year resident at Edgewood, was voted in as President and Mary Horne, a six year resident, as Council Vice-President. Both these ladies possess not only the ability to be objective but also the compassion to understand and the self confidence to speak their minds. The staff at Edgewood is very proud of them and look forward to their input into the daily operation of the facility.
